American rapper Lil Uzi Vert (26) is known not only for his music but also for his eccentric jewelry, tattoos and other striking ‘adornments’. Yet long gold chains with a dollar sign no longer seem to suffice for him: on social media Lil Uzi is showing off his new ‘piercing’, an 11-carat pink diamond worth some 20 million euros.

Lil Uzi had previously revealed on Twitter that he had purchased a pink, oval-shaped diamond from the famous and renowned jeweler Elliot Eliantte. “I have been saving up for this diamond since 2017. I have seen many diamonds, but this was the first time I saw one in pink,” the rapper wrote at the time. He immediately set his sights on the gem, although he had to exercise some patience. “It took me a long time to get this amount together,” wrote Lil Uzi Vert, who also indicated that the diamond cost more than all his house and all his cars combined.

Some background on Lil Uzi Vert

Characterized by his face tattoos, facial piercings, eccentric hairstyles and androgynous fashion, his music is often defined by dark subject matters and imagery built on a melodic emo approach to trap.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Lil Uzi gained initial recognition following the release of the commercial mixtape Luv Is Rage (2015), which led to a recording contract with Atlantic Records, to whom he signed to under DJ Drama’s Generation Now imprint.

Lil Uzi attracted mainstream attention following the release of his debut single “Money Longer” in 2016. The song would act as the lead single for the subsequent mixtape Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World (2016), which also contained the song “You Was Right“.

After releasing two additional mixtapes in 2016 and 2017, including one in collaboration with Gucci Mane, Lil Uzi was featured on the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping Migos’ single “Bad and Boujee“. He later secured his first top ten single with “XO Tour Llif3“, which won the MTV Video Music Award for Song of Summer.
