During a jewellery fair in the Japanese town of Yokohama, a 50 carat diamond worth 1.7 million euros was stolen. A Japanese television station reports this.

The gemstone was exhibited in an unlocked glass case. Despite the fact that a salesman was always present at the showcase, someone managed to steal the diamond. This may have happened when one of the sellers was distracted during a conversation with a customer.

According to local media, the police were informed about the theft around 18:00. An hour earlier, the diamond was still in the display case.

Japan is known as one of the safest countries in the world. This feeling of security ensures that Japanese often deal with valuable items carelessly.
